While some of these may not be a secret, because it’s already top of the line advice for staying on point, I’ve compiled a couple of beauty secrets that models live by and should never live without. While being a model is not always about your beauty or how gorgeous your body is, it’s good to take care of yourself because it’s what will propel you to a successful career.
Double Cleansing
This simply means that you have to cleanse your face twice to get rid of all the makeup, excess sebum, and dirt that’s sitting on your face and pores after a long hard day’s work. No matter how au naturel the skin of the model looks in the shot, we all know how the no-makeup makeup look is twice as complicated than having a full-face of makeup on. Your face is probably packed with silicone primer and high coverage foundation that won’t seem to budge even after long hours under the sun or heavy lights! If I’m not mistaken, your face has about 10 layers of products mixed with your own body oils and sweat. It’s a no-no to leave makeup on before you sleep, so it’s highly recommended that you use the double cleansing method to make sure there are no makeup residues on your face that can clog your pores and lead to breakouts. For the lazy ones out there, a makeup remover wipe does the trick. Followed by your favorite oil or foaming cleanser.
Swab or Spatula
Never ever dip your fingers in your creams or any other tub of skin care. Use a cotton swab or a small spatula to scoop out the contents. You don’t want to risk it being contaminated. It’s not like you can wash off your creams as soon as they get dirty! Let’s face it, our hands are rarely clean and sanitized because we use it all the time to pick up things (and germs!). If you think using a cotton swab or a spatula is just too much work, you can look for skin care that is in tubes instead of tubs. If it’s airtight and has a pump, the better! If your holy grail cream doesn’t come in those, just go the extra mile and use a swab or spatula. The breakout isn’t worth it!
Ice It All Out
This is a very cheap hack that a lot of makeup gurus and celebrities swear by. Ice can reduce inflammation and therefore help a pimple calm down. It can also boost the blood circulation on your skin that can give you plumper skin and a youthful glow. It can even reduce the appearance of puffy eyes and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. If that doesn’t urge you to use this very very cheap and highly available skin care method, I don’t know what will.
Skip Hair Day
Washing your hair every day can strip your hair of its natural oils. While it’s never good to have really oily scalp because it can be harder to style and it could leave a quite heavy feeling, the oil can help strengthen your hair and not leave it prone to breakage. It can also make your hair dull and leave it with little to no shine and even cause more split ends. You can wash your hair every other day whenever it’s possible, or you can leave it unwashed for a maximum of 5 days if your hair isn’t on the extremely oily side. If you’re worried about how it smells, you can try using a dry shampoo to keep it smelling fresh. If you have no project lineups, it’s probably best to let your hair be.
No Makeup While Working Out
This is a no-brainer but a lot of people still wear makeup while working out especially when they’re in the gym. Maybe it’s because they want to keep looking attractive while doing all that awkward squats, or that they’re looking forward to meeting a potential partner that loves fitness too. Whatever the reason is, resist the urge to do this for the love of your skin. Once you sweat, your makeup melts and it can start clogging your pores. We all know where clogged pores lead and we don’t want that. A lip stain is alright for your lips, but as much as possible, leave your face bare.
Water Therapy
Last but not the least, hydrate yourself and make sure that you’re consuming 8-10 glasses of water per day. Why? There’s a lot of reasons out there and glowing, hydrated and plump looking skin is just some of the benefits. This is probably one of the best in all of the beauty secrets out there!
