Being a model is synonymous with constant hair styling several times daily, which results in damaged hair. If you don’t make an effort in keeping your tresses healthy, the damage may no longer be reversible.
Models need to be in tip-top shape all the time and this package includes your hair. As a woman, our hair is also one of our crowning glories. Personally, I also have a hair care routine that I follow so that I can keep my hair looking healthy regardless of how many times hairstylists blow-dry, straighten, curl, and style my hair. Below, I’ll share with you a couple of hair care tips that I also do in order to keep my hair looking as healthy as possible.
Deep-Condition Your Hair
It’s not all the time that models have the luxury of going to the salon for hair treatments. Not only that it’s expensive, sometimes we feel like it causes more damage than reversing it because of the chemicals they use. When we want to give our hair the tender loving care it needs, salons give us treatments then blow-dry and straighten it afterward. Aren’t we trying to avoid that, even just for a while?
What’s amazing about deep-conditioners is that you can use it at the comforts of your own home and it doesn’t always have to break the bank. All you have to do is purchase a reliable deep-conditioner or hair treatment that works well for you. There are a lot of brands out there, just make sure that it’s organic or at least has few chemicals. If you want to try a DIY one, you can try these home-made hair masks. If you ask me, I love aloe vera and coconut oil hair masks the most!
Use the deep-conditioner at least once a week, or more, depending on how damaged your hair is. You may also want to look for the right type of deep-conditioner that’s suited for your hair. From straight, curly, treated, or colored hair, there’s a product out there that’s specifically for your hair type.
Don’t Over-Wash and Over-Shampoo Your Hair
A very common mistake that people make is that they use too much shampoo or that they wash their hair too often. Our hairs have natural oils that make them look and feel soft and shiny. However, they are easily stripped out because of using too much shampoo. Over-washing can also result in drier and frizzier hair.
Many supermodels and hair stylists recommend washing your hair every other day, or every third day if possible. It’s also recommended that you use only one pump of shampoo with every wash.
Snack On Protein and Vitamin-Rich Food
“You are what you eat”. So, if you want shiny and healthy hair, you also have to eat healthy proteins such as avocados and nuts. Most people would even recommend putting these proteins directly in your hair, just like Radiant Peach’s article that I linked above about home-made hair masks. No matter what, don’t skip or disregard this step. You can deep-condition all you want, but if you’re not getting enough nutrition in your body, your hair will manifest the lack of nutrition. Any model would tell you that!
Don’t forget that other than protein, biotin or vitamin k, keratin, vitamins a, c, d, and e are also factors for shiny hair. You may use hair serums or find hair products that have them as an ingredient. You will also notice that your hair will grow longer and thicker because biotin and keratin are both building blocks to having healthy hair.
Rinse With Cold Water
A warm bath does feel really good after a long day. However, hot water can make your hair look drier and frizzier compared to cold water. Let’s just say that most of the hairstyling tools that damage your hair emit heat– which results to dry and damaged hair. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to bathe in ice-cold water though! All you have to do is make sure that after conditioning your hair, rinse your hair for 5-10 seconds with cold water in order to set your conditioner properly. The result is beautiful and shiny hair! It’s a very simple trick but makes a huge difference.
Don’t forget that brushing your hair can help massage your scalp and encourage it to produce natural oils, so do it accordingly. It is also best that you use a hairbrush that does not cause friction on your hair. A detangler works really well in keeping your hair tangle-free without causing hair breakage.
Do these hair care tips on a regular basis and you will really see a difference with how your hair looks.
