You might be wondering why your work has been stagnant lately. You may be seeing an obvious decline in your modeling projects and bookings but don’t take it personally.
The modeling industry can be like that for no apparent reason and that’s just the way it is. However, some of the reasons can be controlled and this is what you need to focus on.
Following Trends
Trends just come and go. At some point, people would prefer models with gap tooth, bleached brows, uniquely dyed hair, the freckles, toned, skinny, and tanned bodies.
The Solution: Don’t focus on the trends. If you’re always trying to fit the current trend, you’ll find yourself outdated in a snap. This can be very tiring as well, especially when the trend isn’t exactly your style or it doesn’t fit your personality. Try to focus on something that’s bigger, like your effectiveness as a model, a good reputation, and a strong individual image. Things like this last longer than a trend and that’s what matters. After quite a while, I’m sure you’ll see that you’re being booked for more modeling projects.
Fitness Levels
The modeling industry demands a strong, healthy and toned body. If you’re not working under these conditions, maybe you need to work on your body a little more.
The Solution: Adjust your daily fitness levels. Maybe you need to buy a gym membership or look for a personal trainer in order to keep you in good shape.
Agency Marketing
Honestly, you’ll be surprised at how often your agency fails to market or promote you properly. Not only because there are new faces in the agency that need more of the attention, but you’re also competing with models that haven’t even signed up with them yet– but they’re eyeing to get them signed.
The Solution: Talk to your agent about this issue. It’s okay to tell them and explain to them that you feel as though they’re not putting enough energy in promoting you to clients. You may also want to ask them why you haven’t been booked with much work. It’s okay if they provide you with feedback, don’t get offended by it. Instead, use it as a guide and work on what needs improvement.
There would be extreme cases wherein you might need to switch to a new agency, if you still think that agencies aren’t doing enough for you and there isn’t any solution about it. However, never change agencies until you know the reason why you’re not being booked for work. It might damage your career and it’s highly unprofessional.
Strong Portfolio
When was the last time you took a peek in your portfolio? You might want to double check on the strength of your portfolio. It needs to showcase the versatility in your look. While this is a very common issue, the fix isn’t always that easy for everyone.
The Solution: Reevaluate the images that are in your portfolio. Maybe do a little reshuffling and take note of how good the flow is in your book. If you think that you need better images, you might want to ask your agency for test shoots and editorials in order for them to be able to organize some for you. You might also want to opt to work with creatives that are great in order to achieve the right images that you want.
Be proactive in looking for ways to keep your modeling projects coming. Don’t ever stop looking for ways in order to improve your performance and career as a model. Don’t let a few rejections get in the way of your dreams!
