I’m sure that when you do a little research about the positive side of modeling, only 1 out of 10 articles will show you a different light of the industry. I know, because I tried.
With all the news about the modeling industry and the tons of articles online about how modeling isn’t good career– I just want to do a little shout out and a little encouragement to all the models out there, including the aspiring ones, to stay positive.
Handling Rejection
“No.” is a very difficult word to hear, but models hear this multiple times until they make it big. For aspiring models, you will be rejected so many times before you can land that big project. This has caused a lot of models to give up before they even reach their goals.
Rejection is everywhere. This doesn’t just exist in the modeling industry. In relationships, in other jobs, or in life overall, rejection happens.
My Advice: Find your focus. Remind yourself why you wanted this in the first place. Then work on areas that can change the “No.” into a “Yes.” Turning your rejections into something positive may require a lot of work and maybe a few more rejections are still at hand, but if you know why you’re doing this and you’re focused, your efforts will always be rewarded.
Don’t Stop Trying
After the countless rejections, I’m sure you feel like it’s time to give up any time soon but that shouldn’t be the case. The more you hear no, the closer you are to hearing a yes if you always try your best to improve.
A lot of successful models have gone through exactly what you’re going through. Everyone has to start from nothing and success isn’t just served in a silver platter.
My Advice: Don’t stop trying. Don’t let the rejections stop you from the career you’ve always dreamed of. If it helps, do a little research about the success stories of models. You’ll see that they had it bad before they had it good.
Practice, practice, practice.
“Practice makes perfect.” and in modeling, this is really accurate. You have to learn from your experiences despite the rejections. If you’re not hired from a casting call, you can learn a lot from that experience and you can always try to improve in certain areas.
My Advice: There will always be someone that’s better than you. Modeling is a competition that never ends. You have to battle for that next project you’re aiming for almost all the time. The only way to overcome this is to keep on practicing until you get your “Yes.”
Love What You’re Doing
There is always an element of uncertainty with modeling. It’s like having an audition or job interview every time you go to a casting call. If you think that modeling is draining you from happiness, then maybe it’s time to take a deep breath and do a couple of things that you love for the meantime.
My Advice: If you’re getting too overwhelmed, go to a spa, get a facial, or have a nice bubble bath. Reward yourself with your efforts because casting calls and auditions were never wired to be easy. Be strong. If you’re tired, learn to rest then go back to doing what you love.
Just because you were not chosen for all the casting calls that you went to, it doesn’t mean that you didn’t work hard or that you’re not good enough to be a model. You deserve to feel good about yourself and always remember that confidence helps you glow in a different way– so does happiness. Remind yourself of everything that you’ve loved about modeling and I’m sure that all you need is a little recharging and you’re good to go!
