Want to have a runway walk like the girls on the Gucci runway? Wondering how top models do it? I learned by watching videos and mimicking the walk in front of a mirror, but here are some tips that should help:
- Walk with your hips a little forward (lead with your hips a bit) and your body will automatically fall into a natural runway walk and will keep your feet from feeling heavy as well. This was the biggest and best tip I ever received. Helped me tremendously.
- Practice your walk in good shoes. Start from 2 ½ inch-heels and progress to wedges then stilettos.
- Stand on one foot and move your other leg through the air, with a book on your head. This will help you learn to balance… because when you perfect your balance, confidence follows.
- Find your groove and swagger by practicing you strut with a playlist. Good music selection helps set that runway mood.
- Never look down. Always look straight ahead at the cameras or pick a spot on the wall ahead of you so you won’t get distracted by anything around you.
- Videotape yourself practicing your walk and watch it so you can see what the audience would’ve seen.
- A lot of models, when learning runway modeling, tend to swing their arms way too much. Your arms should only swing as much as your body makes them.
Here’s a visual lesson:
And remember, even top models make mistakes. Here’s what not to do (if you can avoid it):
